There will be no pinching in the style world on this St. Patrick’s Day because green is everywhere! The Pantone 2017 color of year is Greenery and we’re loving it! There are endless combinations of colors, patterns, and textures to accompany this stylish color. Greenery can be paired with a kale (dark green) paint color for a monochromatic vibe or a hot pink/fuchsia for a retro vibe. And to create a bold look, style greenery with banana leaf wallpaper – that’s a sure way to make your houseguests green with envy for your interior design. No matter how you choose to ‘go green’ you won’t be lacking up-to-date design style for this week’s green, luck of the Irish holiday.

It is officially four days until Christmas!! -Can you believe it?! Like the song says, “it is the most wonderful time of the year”, and that applies for your home too. The sight of twinkling lights, the sweet scent from the Christmas tree, and stockings hung with care. This season is for special decor that makes your home and your heart feel merry and bright. It’s that time of year where you want to come home after a busy day and just curl up in a comfy chair to relax. But let’s be honest, that’s true for anytime of the year… it just sounds cozier on a chilly Fall afternoon. Since the recent time change everyone around my house is feeling a little more tired and could use a cozy chair to enjoy a cat nap or cuddle with the kids. If you’re like Merrin & I, each of our homes has a number of seating areas but there is always that one spot that seems to call your name – that one chair in the house that makes you feel the most comforted & at ease. We hope you are reading this in your special spot! But just because it provides the best comfort doesn’t mean it should slack on style. Have you ever sat on a gorgeous piece of furniture & loved it but you couldn’t see yourself ever calling it “your cozy seat”? Well we always try to make sure our clients have the best of both worlds with your furniture – style and sufficiency.
Here are just a few of our favorite styles of chairs!
Happy Halloween!! It seems like just yesterday we were saying hello to October & embracing all things Fall, now it’s Halloween…how can it be!? Although we may never understand how time passes by so quickly, we will always cherish every season that comes and goes. Fall is one of our favorites! It’s a season that never disappoints. It’s a time for change in nature and change in your decor. We put away our sweet summertime styles and bring out our fabulous fall fashion. It’s a season for curling up in a fluffy flannel blanket, listening to John Mayor by the fire, carving pumpkins with your kids, and sipping on hot apple cider. October will soon be in our past but November brings just as much joy to our hearts and our home! We hope you enjoy our picks for festive pumpkin decor. No matter the color – traditional orange, chic white, or distressed light blue, pumpkins are always a pleasantly perfect symbol for Fall, October and of course Halloween!
Have a Fall-tastic Halloween!!!
We can’t get enough of this rich emerald green at our studio! Just a couple weeks ago we had an install with green pillows and chairs that gave a perfect accent to our client’s home. Although PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald was chosen as the 2013 color of the year – the lively, radiant and lush green is back! This color brings a room to life whether in the form of a pillow, accent wall, or drapery and it’s great for upcoming holiday decorating! Here are some of our favorite pairings with this plush pantone. Enjoy!
As we approach the end of Summer we realize that the days are getting shorter, weather is becoming cooler, and kids are transitioning back to school. But what about our furry friends…? Whether you refer to your dog as a K-9 kiddo, oversized (or actual) lap dog, a member of the family, or a plain ole pet – do you ever wonder what they think of summer time life? I’m sure many long haired dogs are grateful for the hot ‘dog days’ of summer soon coming to an end. But what actually are the “dog days” of summer?
According to a National Geographic article by Becky Little, the most common use of the phrase is referring to it being so hot that even dogs would just lie around panting all day. But the true origin comes from the ancient Greeks and Romans. They thought of the constellation Canis Major as a dog chasing Lepus, the hare. The dog star was named Sirius and when the star would rise just before the sun in late July it was an indicator that the hottest days of the year were soon to come.
Now that you have read your short history lesson for the day, you can see the ‘dog days’ of summer according to Swell & what we love the most about displaying dog decor in the home. There is actually an array of dog decor styles; from classy wallpaper, to delicate dog paintings, and even one of our favorite Swell Décor girls bedroom with a fun black & white accent wallpaper. We hope you enjoy our picks & love on your furry friends a little extra today!
